If the setting looks interesting to you, or you're looking for a decent squad-based RTS, this will do just fine. In spite of the many problems I had with this game, I had quite a bit of fun. But unlike Company of Heroes 2, these are not MICROTRANSACTION LOOTBOXES IN A SINGLE PLAYER RTS! So there's that at least. But when playing against computer opponents, these are just a bit of a chore to play.Īlso like Company of Heroes (2 in this case), you've got a whole bunch of unlockable cosmetics: profile pics, nameplates, units skins. Like Company of Heroes, you've got two modes: capturing points and annihilation.
STEAM IRON HARVEST OFFLINE
But the offline skirmished are barebones at best. Unfortunately you almost never get to play with the high-end units, which are thus relegated to multiplayer and skirmish. The story is rather predictable, with Poland being portrayed as peaceful farmers, and Nikola Tesla being a Deus ex machine (because of course!), but these otherwise tired tropes being transported into this game's weird setting feels fitting. The campaign is quite lengthy for its budget, with quite a few setpieces. Yet in spite of all these mistakes, I enjoyed this game quite a bit. The game itself runs fine, but the cutscenes suffer from awful lag, and are pretty ugly, with jagged edges and poor lipsyncing. This is the one mistake you cannot make in an RTS, but none except maybe Age of Empires has gotten it right.

No unit stances, and the issues that usually follow: rather than having a 'stand ground' order that has your units defend their local area, they will either stand there, taking shots to the face without reacting, or chase enemies all the way to the other side of the map-which leads into.
STEAM IRON HARVEST UPGRADE
You upgrade your buildings once to unlock high-tier units, and that's it. This is super annoying, as it makes your UI becomes one big mess, and makes it incredibly confusing to select units from your taskbar, rather than with hotkeys. You can *add* units to groups, but once they're in there, you can't take them out, or disband the group. Accidentally built the wrong unit, or want to change army composition mid-mission? Tough luck, buster! Of course, when mimicking a strategy game more than 15 years old, there are a lot of issues. As such, it is an immensely frustrating, but immensely enjoyable game.
